Leica in Portugal

So, Leica in Portugal is wonderfully placed to do high quality machining, polishing, and getting all the parts and pieces ready for final assembly.

And it looks like a great place to visit and live.

I will be taking a group over to Leica Portugal and Wetzlar the first week of November of this year. We will be having a tour of the plant in Portugal and then on to Wetzlar for the Leica Oskar Barnack Awards, opening of the new Museum and a major product intro.

There will only be 200 invited guests world wide and my group is included. If you are interested, we are locking up the reservations now. The group is limited to ten, and we have four spots open.

I just bought a Leica 50/2 lens constructed completely in Portugal saving $200 over the German built. I defy anyone to tell the difference.

Wow! Sounds like an exciting trip. I will have to pass but am excited for any forum members that go. Please share some pics if possible of the trip.

Im guessing it doesnt say made in portugal but rather its produced there and finished off in germany to have the made in germany tagged on??Though itd be nice to have Made in Portugal tagged on the lens..nice collectors item

No, they say Made in Portugal. It avoids the tariffs that the last US administration put in place on German goods, hence the $200 savings.

My R8 black body has a "Made by Leica Portugal" sign on the back. I purchased three Leica R8 silver bodies made in Germany and they all turned out to be duds, but the black Portugal-made one is perfect.

Then, I also have an anthracite-color R9 made in Germany... and it works like a dream.
