At least a shirt pocket is unlikely to also have coins, pocket knife, or keys to share with a camera. But considering lint, weight, appearance, and safety, I avoid carrying any camera in any pocket...
I've carried a Zorki 1D with collapsible I-22 in my shirt pocket just fine (same as having a Leica IIc). But other cameras I've had mixed results with, with the biggest problem being sweat condensation on the camera body. Ruined a nice Canon Sure Shot Classic 120 that way.

Of course you can carry a heavy Leica in your shirt pocket (I mean, you can carry one in the small of your back too right?), but it's not for everyone... too awkward for me.
If we're to believe Kodak, they had some seriously big pockets around the early 1900s 😉
I never wear a shirt with pockets if I can help it.
Anyway......Why is this a thread?!!
