Mentioned it in the other safari special edition thread... Leica's on a tear right now.
Of course, that can only mean a new M is in the way.

Good for Gibson, wear should be come by honestly. If my MP gets some road rash, I usually remember the circumstances and the assignment I may have been working on when it happens. But to have a person brass a camera simply for aesthetics is laughable really.
Sorry if this was posted previously. A true 'what are they thinking' and another sign of Leica's straying from their past user base. Are collectors the only people they're after ?

sigh....
Yep, they have strayed. They cater to camera fondlers.

It just seems like Leica is just making products for products sake.

Unlike the safari (I like the silver olive combo personally), this one comes with a $9000 case. You think with such a nice case it would be in better shape!
If it wasn't brassed, it'd be a nice black paint set.

Why does the latest special edition always cause such distress?

Leica is a company - like any company they sell products to make money. If people like to buy this, what possible problem could that be? It is still a new. excellent camera. Bashed-up jeans sell at a premium too...
Whether the customer wants the camera sanded down, painted in purple polka dots or covered in elephant-dung leatherette makes no difference at all for the quality. Live and let live....
If it keeps the company going and brings in the bread to R&D the development of the products, all is well with the world.
I guess my M240 will look about the same in a couple of year's time - it is well on its way.

This particular one rubs me the wrong way because it's cruel irony. They're selling a fantasy when many actual photojournalists can barely afford an M240. Sure they can try and prioritise it but in the end, many can't so they're left out of the fold while a deep pocketed collector can imagine they're a 'correspondent' if you will. as always, ymmv

What I don't get is what Lenny has to do with the "Correspondent" title. The other, really limited edition M3D at least is based on some history.

Jeez, I guess you guys (and me) who don't understand that kind of marketing can't understand the $1600 madeworn jeans worn in this photo shoot either...

But no worries here. Live and let live.
Let those who like it and love it send Leica AG as much money as they can!

Why not? There used to be a time when an aspiring apprentice staff photographer would attack his Nikon with sandpaper and a steel brush to look like a seasoned pro. This particular one rubs me the wrong way because it's cruel irony. One could get upset at anything mislabeled "Pro", or at skis labeled "World Cup" that struggle to get down a slope - life is too short. Just smile a superior smile.

As previously stated, it's an aesthetic that suggests experience.

Fender Guitars to a similar thing called Road Worn series. Gibson Guitars wouldn't go there. It feels like Leica is throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. Just not my cup of tea. Come on Leica.
au contraire, brother...
Gibson does it to some of their VOS guitars from their custom shop, albeit not as aggressively as Fender relics. Fender was originally doing this with their Custom Shop guitars long before the Road Worn series. I actually have 2 Fender custom shops and a Gibson VOS, they are all really great!

Looks terrific in my view. The only M240 I'd be seen dead with. And it takes away the anxiety of the first brassing at one's own hand. A camera to be relaxed with right out of the box. I mean case. I am partly serious. Seriously.

Too right.
Leica Camera is a commodity.
