Hello all, I’ve recently purchased a Summaron 35/3.5 in LTM from a member here and as described it has some light internal haze (par for the course you could say).

I’ve had a very healthy quote of £65 plus carriage and VAT from Newton Ellis & Company in London to have the lens cleaned and serviced. Does anyone have any experience of this company or could anyone pass on a few recommendations and stories of other companies in the UK that undertake this kind of work?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. what a cute little lens! It operates really well and looks a peach on my M2 :) I’m in the process of running a roll off with it at the moment and can’t wait to see how it performs. I’m expecting to see a lack of contrast but then from what I’ve seen on Flickr, these lenses tend to have that in abundance . Despite this I do like my kit to start off in tip top order so I plan on getting it cleaned as soon as the money is available to do so, even if it’s just to make sure it doesn’t get worse.

Balham Optical. Brilliant. Their actual name is something like Optical Instruments (Balham). And I think they're in Croydon. Google around those key words and you'll probably find 'em.

I got my Summaron from Malcolm Taylor, as he's an acknowledged expert on Leica servicing. It may be more expensive, but you'll have a long lasting lens. He even has his own vacuum lens coating machine.

I had a vintage Leitz Summarit 50 cleaned and mechanically serviced by P.Grisaffi (CRR Luton). The cost was £60 and his service was typically excellent.

Thank you all, i shall have a word with all those guys over the next week and see who will do what for how much ;)

Thanks again!!

Another emphatic recommendation for Malcolm Taylor, his work is superb and my Summar is in tip top condition since he serviced it.
