Hi,

I was just inspecting some of my glass under a light and I noticed that a lens element within my 35mm summicron asph was reflecting this strange pattern (tiny hairline scratches). There is some sort of scratch or piece of dust on one of the internal elements so I'm wondering if this is some kind of reflection that's being generated when light is being bounced into the glass. Can anyone chime in on what this is?

Almost looks like separation.

This is quite unclear. Has your lens been internally damaged at some point by someone having attempted to repair it in the past ?

Also, the small picture you posted cannot lead anybody to tell you what it is. The previous poster tells separation, I would tell water condensation stains.

Try to take a close-up of the defects you see, with less general reflections everywhere on your shot.

My bad. I have attached some cleaned up images with less reflection.

To add, I bought this lens used a while back but I have never sent it for a CLA/repair under my ownership.

It looks like dried condensation to me.

A CLA should take care of it. Separation usually shows up as a color pattern, "Newton's Rings".

I still think it's condensation stains (and I just noticed that Brian is thinking the same 😉).
@jkim3381 : I would leave that lens alone and just use it, this won't have any effect on the photographic results.

Thank you for your feedback. The condensation stains don't affect the image at all as of now but I'm assuming this won't get worse over time if left unaddressed?
