Just rec'd my 35 'lux and I notice a slight bit of play on the apeture ring. I realize it will not affect the pictures, but what is normal? also, will it be prone to worsening? I don't really want to return it unless there may be serious issue with it. Please advise.

Is this an ASPH or pre-ASPH 35 Steve? What is a "slight bit of play"? On my ASPH (which is 2 or 3 years old and was used by a pro) there is about a 1/4 of a mm play if you push it back and forth along the barrel. It is easy to rotate but it is not loose. The 1/2 stop detents are very marked when I rotate the ring. As far as I'm concerned the lens is OK so I suppose I would call it "normal".

It is the ASPH. I've heard from Don at DAG. He tells me many of the ASPH lenses do have a bit of play so it's not unsual. He says the ring can be tightened as well. I guess it's nothing to be worried about. Thanks for your reply.

Glad to hear its OK! I love mine and I think you will love yours too. I have an aversion to tabbed lenses but this one I find usable. I think it has something to do with the diameter of the lens barrel.

Good luck with the lens!

My 35 lux also has a bit of play in the aperture ring. It was adjusted, but made little difference. Basically don't worry about it. It is one of the finest lenses in the Leica stable.

Also the tab on it is great: like peter_n I dislike tabs, but on this lens it just works well.
