Guy with a camera
So I got to thinking (uh oh) and wanted to see what others think of this and if anyone has traveled the same road. It's the lenses that make the image right? Prior to the digital stuff, that was the advice so often proffered. I realize that with digital this is only a partial truth but if each of us had a dollar for every time we read or heard "the camera is just a light tight box to hold the film" we'd all be pretty well off I'm guessing.
So in that vain, I'm rebuilding my RF kit after a short time without and I'm going to be shooting with Leica glass on Bessa bodies, R2A's to be exact. To me it's the best of both worlds. I get the "Leica Look" and a body that will give me AE and not break the bank. After all it is the lenses right?
Now I know that when it comes to Leica, it isn't just the lenses. The bodies are works of art and they do add to the experience. I've owned Leica M bodies and it's a thing of beauty. When it comes to Leica (and Hasselblad I'd venture as well) the body is a bit more than a light tight box. They are VERY durable, last for ages, and there is a distinct pride of ownership and joy of use that you get from them. I think that's great and it's why down the road I will own Leica M bodies again.
For now, the budget has a limit. I need more that one camera system so I can't put all my eggs in one basket so to speak but that doesn't mean I can have the Leica experience and have images with the look I want.
CV makes some very nice light tight boxes and the fact that I can get 4 of CV's light tight boxes with AE for the cost of one of Leica's is no small difference.
I encourage anyone who wants to get into Leica and shoot Leica branded lenses to look at the CV camera offerings and focus on building the lens collection that you'd like if you, as I do, find the rendering of the classic Leica glass fits your photographic vision.
