Leica lenses show extra grain with E-P2

I'm using my Leica M lenses on my new Olympus E-P2, and I've discovered they are generating a lot more "grain" than the m-Zukio 17mm lens that came with the camera. I've seen it in all conditions, with different lenses (Leica and Hexanon). Very odd. Does anyone know what's going on here?

What Leica lens is that? Perhaps it needs cleaning? How does it look on an M8/M9 or with a film M?

My EP2 does not do this. I have it set to center-weighted, Aperture preferred Auto mode. Turned down sharpening.

It looks like you have edge sharpening or "something" going on with the image. Go through the MANY (too many) settings and menu's. Make sure you do not have an "ART" setting engaged. Like Mosaic Tile Filter or whatever is in there.

Grain? There is no grain on a sensor. You are seeing sharpening artifacts or sensor noise. Are you shooting in jpg?

Are your pictures 100% enlarged? They do not look as if taken by a 28mm lens; maybe I am wrong. They both look horrible, that is what I see.

Maybe the auto-iso was on with the lens set to a small aperture?

For legacy lenses on u4/3, I think about 40mm is the shortest you can go, before corner softness and f4 the highest you can go before diffraction.

With APS-C like the NEX, you can go maybe down to 28mm with good corners, and up to 5.6 without diffraction limitation.

So on u4/3 with legacy lenses, there is just no way, no how with wide and slow.

It looks like you stripped the EXIF data -- was it shot at high-ISO? I know my E-P2 is quite noisy at 1600 (I am mainly used to a D3). Hard to tell but it seems like a crop from a larger noisy image.

I agree with you, it looks like was using the high ISO.
