Some lenses that I want use A36 filters, what do you guy do about this?

I'm mostly interested in UV or perhaps Yellow filters. Mostly for protection.

Do you guys adapt to E39, not use filters, or hunt down the original? I take it that nobody manufactures these anymore?

Google "SOOGZ"

You can also get original (very old) screw in filters from the Argus C3 (19mm, I believe). I haven't been attracted to the old filters. I don't know how good many were in their day and time hasn't helped them.

I go naked mostly, or use the SOOGZ and a modern e39 filter. The SOOGZ also provides a groove for mounting a hood (12585 or ITOOY) to stylishly block your viewfinder.

Hi,

There' a thread about this somewhere but don't ask where. I put a picture of the original and genuine filter on it but here it is again.

The original range included UV and what you'd expect f B&W film.

Hello, MSB,

Some Leitz lenses, such as the 50mm Summar and 90mm f=4 Elmar can use A36 clamp-on filters but also have threads for a 34mm screw-in. I was lucky enough to find a Summar a few years back that had such a flawless front element despite its age that I bought such a 34mm screw-in directly from B+W (Schneider Optics). I mounted it on the lens and it will stay on there as long as I'm around on this planet to care. That lens deserves to be pampered.

The SOOGZ is an alternative, but quite hard to find and bulky once mounted on the lens. If your're talking about filters for the old 50mm Elmar with 19mm screw-in, I have seen them listed by dealers, but rare as hens' teeth. You could talk to the nice chaps at Schneider Optics...

Best,
David
