Leica M “CLA” service

My RF focus using this lens doesnt reach horizontal infinity focus. . I try this lens in my other Leica which also have the same problem. So is not the body. I try to live with it, until i have to do another CLA i send it to Don DAG . Youxin is good if you want to speedy service but for me isn't acceptable because i have to pay taxes if i send the lens back and forth .

Chris

Lenses generally don't alter their infinity setting according to how they're positioned. What are you trying to say? That the rangefinder patch doesn't align at infinity? Whatever it is, you are making it very complicated.

i think his helicoids' are off by a bit. it was probably not put back properly (the focusing ring adjustment) so its off by a bit. thats the only thing i can think of that can go wrong.:eek::eek:

he has to view it from the film plane to be exact, tho.

still...i wonder what horizontal alignment is...

the rangefinder patch doesnt focus at infinity, no it's not complicated..like i said i have another lenses (Summicron not collapsible) try in my M3 and doesnt have this problem. Try my Summarit on my M2 there problem still the same..so isn't on the camera body..try to live with it. I ask another local Tech which he said it has to reach infinity focus ..cheers

horizontal RF patch...i talk to another tech after i realized this problem which he say something about lens collimation ...cheers

It looks like some are trying to lecture you without knowing what they are talking about. :)

Collimation apparatus has nothing to do with it. It is only needed if no verified camera is present.

I have this situation with old FSU RF lenses. Focus helicoud tubes have multi-entrance threads. And sometimes they allows to get them connected with very small intervals. If it is on the nearby entry point, but not exactly on where it supposed to be, lens doesn't allow RF to focus on infinity. To get it corrected, entire focus block has to be disassembled.

But if you are making money for living and charging small money for it...

Maybe, i'm not an expert in lens..whatever that is the problem is on the lens;).

if its off by a bit then its easy to correct but if its off by a lot then you will have to strip the focusing unit again :eek::eek:

like what many are trying to say, it doesnt have anything to do with lens centering.

lens centering problems manifests differently in the form of a blurred picture because the rays that are refracted arent aligned properly. since this is a rangefinder it has nothing to do with the focusing patch.

Constructive suggestion: next time, say that. It makes sense, and is relevant, unlike horizontal focus

I have had a Canon RF "CLAed" at Don Goldberg -- went smoothly and was very satisfied with the results. Surprisingly it didn't take that long!

I mentioned them on the previous page, sent them a lot of cameras from across the Atlantic, highly recommended.

I just want to say, the parts section on DAG Camera's website cracks me up! And the FAQs!!

Hello all,
I’ve had the M2 serviced since I posted this, it went to Youxin Ye. Full service, M4 viewfinder aperture installed, and recover in grip tac. He did a great job as far as I can tell, some things I could probably nitpick but but for the price i cannot complain. I recommend him to anyone who doesn’t have the money to send stuff to dag or just want the camera done relatively quick.

Lets see...

Sherry cleaned some hazy lenses for me and we had some good conversations about various lenses she likes and why. I was happy with that transaction. Don has seen several of my cameras and converted a Canon 50/.95 lens to Leica M. The Canon lens took close to two years, but still I would prefer him over anyone doing that conversion. All cameras were done in less than 6 weeks usually sooner. Youxin has seen a few of my cameras. The last one was taking way past three months so I requested it back and looked elsewhere.

If Nippon Photoclinic's old timers trained their newer guys, they may still do Leica work - apart from the RF, leica's are relatively simple cameras
