Leica M Monochrom: best pics

FWIW I’m finding the new paradigm for posting images in threads difficult, to use the least controversial word among many that come to mind.

It appears a straightforward improvement at first—just upload from iPhone camera roll or Files, no more having to link from RFF gallery or maintain Flickr account—but after posting, I ask, Where did my text / captioning go? Why is this 2mb image a thumbnail? Then, digging into edit mode, I multiply errors and redundancies and clog up the page in the effort to scske up the image and locate what I wrote as commentary. Sheesh.

Sorry to disrupt this image thread to complain about the head smacking results of trial and error, but: If any of you Monochromists have figured out this new paradigm (and are not bound to Flickr), please share your practical wisdom. Thanks.

These shots are with my newly acquired M9M, using the Voigtlander 15mm and 15mm Finder (A new purchase from the Head Bartender):

My initial impression is that the camera wants to underexpose. I saw it while shooting, and so I used + exposure comp settings to correct it. Although the camera could have been over-reacting to the bright sky in two of these shots, even the one of the tree needed a +0.66. Also I had to tame the contrast in Aperture in the two brightly sunlit shots with a large area of sky. On the plus side, I was pleased with many of the shots, where the camera nailed the exposure quite well, and the pictures seemed rather "cinematic." I'll see about posting a couple of those.

No exposure comp on the next two, and nothing done to them in Aperture:

On this one I used +0.3 exposure comp, and it is with the 50mm Version 4 Summicron:

Beautiful Rob. I love the tones of that first one especially. The 15 will underexpose because so much sky is included in the metering field. I find this is a factor at 28mm too, depending on the scene. It’s not a bad thing with the Monochrom as shadow detail can be brought up miraculously. Some actually set the Monochrom to -1 exposure compensation as a default.

Thanks, Richard. Yes, I think the bright afternoon sky was part of the problem. It wouldn't be the first time!
