Thanks Jim. Where the strap holds the camera and pre-focused f/11 1/1000 of a sec. 800 ISO.

Yes she is. I really liked the stuff going on at the edges of the frame to.

The noise signature of the Monochrom is a bit different from my Nikon... Jim, that shows the capabilities of the Monochrom at 3200!

Nice shot. I love the sharp detail in the hat. A year or two ago we had a discussion about shutter speed for street shooting. I prefer it when I can shoot 1/250 minimum, and others agreed. I reckon with digital that should be 1/500 minimum. With the Monochrom that should be easy. What was the shutter speed here?

Hi Richard,

it was indeed 1/500s, ISO320 and maybe f4 or f5.6 , don't know for sure, it was very bright at that street corner.

Klaus, is there in any way we can remember the aperture settings we set for a photo, i end up guessing the aperture most of the times unless I knew I shot it wide open. Any tips? :D

Dave,
LOL, unless you tape your aperture ring in a fix position that might be a lot of numbers to remember for a day of shooting.
I definately have other things on my mind:D.

I still don't know if the missing f-stop info in the MM is just because LR4.2 is not reading it from the meta data and this might be fixed in some later release (4.3 is available but it won't install properly on my desktop...). The f-stop info in the M9 is supposedly not 100% accurate but it certainly gives you a good estimate.

But more importantly is that you get the focus right and the shot turns out great.
If you have or have not the f number, doesn't really matter that much, it's just a nice to have in my book ;).

Dave, in direct comparison with the files, I think, the Mono has surpassed Nikon's once low light monster the 12MP D3 sensor.

Just in any speed, you shoot the Nikon D3 at the files from the Mono simply look better. This for me was the biggest change, that finally there is a digital RF, that does B&W and makes this combo the best choice for low light shooting in combination with the fast lenses, we have.

Some more shots from the Park Ave Armory Art Installation by Ann Hamilton in NYC that ran from beginning of Dec. until a few days ago if I'm not mistaken.
People were obviously in awe not caring about anything but being in the moment

Klaus, I hope the new LR fixes it somehow, I'm still using 4.2... I agree on what you said on your last 2 sentences! Part of the fun with using an RF is it tends to make me concentrate more on photography and much less on tinkering on the technology, features, etc...

Dirk, I have been an extensive D3 user (my most beat-up body to date), and I agree with your observation.

Klaus, amazing tonality and great capture. I like the almost silhouetted people and the sense of scale. Just works for me.

Thanks for your comment Dave. It was a great event and the people were really fascinated by the entire thing, the vail, the movement, the swings, the place.
It reminded me somehow of "The Gates" in Central Park. Also there the people had a similar smile on their faces.
I'm glad I could capture a little bit with my camera.

Hi Vince,
focus seems to be ok, how is it at 100% from the DNG file? If it doesn't nail it where you intended it to be,m the lens needs to be matched to the body.
I had an issue with mine and it was spot on after the service for my M9 at times before the MM. If you have a chance to get one and the price is not outrageous (difficult nowadays ...) then make a decision. You might always have a chance to sell it again, if you feel you don't use it enough. Not much risk of loosing money.

Just checked the DNG at 100% and it looks totally fine. I focused on Mike's mustache and it's right in there.

The lens is in the 340xxxx serial number range, and it has been 6 bit converted. Price is $6k, with both caps and a non-matching numbers Noctilux box (unfortunately no hood, which I think would be the 12544 version). I'm thinking about it!

Vince, that is not a bargain price, but seems to be the current going rate for a v2 or v3 Noctilux.
Careful about pricing - the lens hood alone is traded very expensive (can't remember prices, but it was in the several hundred USD range (not several like in 200, but rather 400+ USD, if I remember correctly).

A 6000 USD price should get you at least a sample with perfect glass (like in new from the factory) and a mint barrel (2 − 4 very small marks on the barrel are ok, which comes naturally with usage, how careful one ever handles it, but it should clearly not look like dragged over the floor).

If the 6-bit coding was done in the factory (and not by a backyard shop with eBay 6-bit mounts) and the conversion was done recently incl. CLA, this adds value, if proof can be supplied.

Enjoy!

If the Noct 50/1 gets too slow, just search for a nice sample of a dreamless ;-)
