Leica M Monochrom: best pics

Thanks for your comments John and David.
What amazed me the most, besides the awesome scenery was the near total absence of artificial/man made noise. There is still some low speed car traffic on the island but if you step away from the parking lot and take a short hike to get to the places like in the first shot ... there is the waves clashing against the shore, birds chirping and the wind. That's it ... no highway traffic noise in the background, no constant air traffic noise overhead, such a treat🙂.
Especially when you live in the NY metro area.

Absence of noise!

Absence of noise!

John,

That absence of man made sound, replaced by the crashing of waves and natural sound/power was a lot of what drew me to that spot. ....even as a 19 year old. I've always loved rocky coast and would love to return to that place...one day.

Alberto, lovely landscape.

And thank you Phil for sharing that comparison and your images. I will hopefully place an order this week for a digital filter or two!

Furthermore, since this really turned into a color vs color filter I will say that I think I can see why the Heliopan light yellow is somewhat favored. It probably does about ~75% of the contrast adjustment as the BW022, but with a about half as much light absorption/filter factor. It seems to help keep the highlights from a bright blue sky in-check just as well without overly darkening or altering the midtones as much as the 022. And since there's less light being absorbed by the filter, more of that light is making its way onto the sensor to help with lifting shadows in post. Really, I think this is all due to the color difference. I have to do some more shooting to be 100% certain, but I am fairly confident that I'm not too far off from having made a fairly reasonable and accurate conclusion...

That sums up my experience, after Cal's recommendation for the heliopan. I didn't really put in such an effort to do a comparison as you did. THX for sharing!

You're welcome, Klaus.
Glad it was helpful. To be honest, I felt sort of bad for taking so long to post anything about it since many on here were quite helpful in finding the same heliopan filter.

This is looking north toward Orcas and Lummi Islands (both are San Juan Islands) in the Northern Puget Sound. We were spared a huge storm but skies were quite dramatic this past weekend.
