Not an accessory you'd normally think of for a Monochrom 246!

I just picked this up to supplement my commercial video equipment. I wondered if it would work with the Monochrom -- I mounted it, balanced everything, attached the 'follow focus' motor, updated the gimbal's firmware (yes even it has firmware!), and it's awesome.

In case you don't know what you're looking at, it's a Zhiyun Crane 2 motorized gimbal. Many of the programmed movements within it are for Canon, Sony and Panasonic, but it will work with other cameras as well. The 'follow focus' motor will pretty much work with any camera with a lens you can focus. I've found that it won't work with my 35/1.4 Summilux because of the focusing tab on the lens, but it does work with the 50/1.4 Summilux. With this motor attachment and the universal lens strap, you can now focus the lens with that big knob on the gimbal's shaft. Makes for very smooth focusing transitions!

To mount this set up on a small table top tripod is bold:eek:
I wish that nobody touches the table or hits a leg.

That’s actually part of the whole unit itself - the shaft/tripod unit is where all the controls are, and it can hold over 7 lbs. Plus the whole contraption is quite hefty - they’d have to give it a significant hit to cause it to topple over. I also have the two-handled grip attachment. The bottom three legs unscrew from the shaft unit.

Just imagine it with a big Nikon and a 24-70/2.8 lens on it :)

This guy seemed an appropriate subject on my walk yesterday. Seen here studying the field below. I just had the 50mm to work with.

DwF,
I can't help it but to me the wood surface, particularly in the swirl area looks somewhat plasticy to me. Was it really appearing this way in real life?

Klaus, nice shadows on yours above here!

You are absolutely correct. It was late here when I posted and as I closed the monitor, I noticed the same thing. With this file, I followed my typical workflow so not sure what is at play here. Later when time (and patience) allows, I will go back and re-do to try for something more organic! ....there's enough plastic here in the states just now ;)

I really appreciate your bringing this to my attention.

David

It is re=done (the driftwood about three posts above). I did overdo the highs in my earlier attempt on a surface that has been well polished by the elements. Hopefully the plasticky aspect is gone.

Hi Dave,

just from memory, I think it's better now. It doesn't jump out artificial anymore.
Thanks for putting in the effort just based on a comment from a stranger ;)

I decided not to leave that original but replace it both on your suggestion and my being in agreement with it. You're no stranger, it's just some of your images are strange ;)
