Leica M Monochrom: best pics

It is mostly familiarity, but I just got 100% on the test here. Anyone else with a Monochrom want to give it a go?

Currently Victoria Police Association headquarters, East Melbourne. Louis Sullivan influence?

One image in the pairs was distinctly darker than the other. More detail in the highlights but also the shadows were denser/blocked. So perhaps your choice of which camera took which image may have been more ‘which image do you prefer?’

I’d think a more interesting test would be to test the Monochrom against maybe something like the Pentax KIII or any other conventional digital camera with its colour image converted to black and white. Then you’d see if it was worth a) going with an exclusively black and white-sensored camera or just converting to black and white after the fact, and b) whether the final image was worth the cost of a Leica.

This thread is interesting because most of the shots could not really show the advantage of the Monochrom over other cameras. Indeed the M9 black and white thread has so many good shots you might swear they were taken with the Monochrom. The M9 SOOC jpegs are very impressive in fact, and triX4ever hit the nail on the head above: very often the MM output is a bit dull to start with. Lots to play with though, in the shadows.

Come to think of it, I don't think I ever looked at what the MM offers in B and W jpegs. Seemed sort of perverse to try...
