Leica M the advanced school of photography???

I received this book as a package when I purchased my M3. Is the "Leica M the advanced school of photography" by Gunter Osterloh 1987 edition. From the book I understand it's a first edition, in English. How much is this book worth? I would like to sell it.

Could not find it on ebay as a completed transaction... I found it on Amazon but is not a first edition though.

Try www.abebooks.com, they have at least six first editions, from $72 to $320.

Next1, that's a pretty cool thing to get with your M3!

I have two versions of this book. One is the more recent one. I also got the same edition you have (first English) at the Chicago Camera Collectors show this past spring. It's in mint shape and I paid $30 for it. But I think it could easily sell for more.

Is this the same as yours?

Yes, is the same! Mine says that is a first english edition from 1987.

I think that I have the same edition and the SN of the Noctilux on the cover is only 15 numbers apart from my copy of the lens. 😀

Very informative and helpful book, BTW. The answers to many questions posted in various Internet forums can be found in this book. 🙂

This book is well-known for the pages becoming detached from the binding. In the cas eof my copy it's about 20 pages in the first section of the book. This reduces thevalue of the book quite considerably. But my main enjoyment of the book is just to read the old text.

The newer edition is also interesting, although it's quite clearly based on the same content as the older one, with updates and expansions.

I understand that a first edition that has intact binding is worth a few hundred dollars. I've seen the second edition priced at ~$300 already.

Its the bookstores that are charging the $$$, especially the online ones. I wanted a Josef Sudek book of panoramas and was quoted up to $700 by several bookstores. Found it for $40 in a little Prague bookshop.

The internet is convenient. If you have the money I think it's OK to spend $700 on a Josef Sudek book and it comes in the mail a few days later. When I think about it I probably spent more than $700 of my time finding a copy that cost $40.

I thought the Leica M Compendium only went as far as the M6? - it's an early-90s book (well, mine is) so it's pre-M6TTL as well as pre-M7.

That's actually what I meant, although my note was ambiguous.

My copy is first dated 1994 with the reprint dated 2001.
