Hi!
I'm thinking about using flash with my Leica and haven't found any good samples anywhere. Do you use Flash? (Leica SF 24D, SF 58 or other)
Nightclubs, Bars, anywhere?
Post your photos here.
Thanks.

I've had good results with both the SF-24D and SF-58 on my M9. I almost always bounce the flash, since I dislike the look of direct flash. The only examples I have are family snapshots. This is a ceiling bounce shot using the SF-58.

Since I'm also a Canon shooter, I just use a Canon 600EX-RT set to manual mode if I have a bit of time to determine the exposure and/or if the situation remains relatively consistent (same ceiling height throughout for bounce flash, for example). Alternatively, I'll use the thyristor option to dial in a specific aperture value and it will then automatically adjust output from the flash based on subject distance. Unfortunately the TTL flash options for Leica are rather limited. A flash that looks appealing is the Nissin i40, though it won't support TTL on an M, so looks like you'll be stuck with manual power adjustments. I don't think it has the auto thyristor mode, which was something very common on most flashes until TTL became mainstream. Now it's tough to find that specific feature. I guess a Vivitar 285 would be an option, though back to the same size as the big flashes...

I use a CTOOM flash bracket, a hot shoe to cord adapter, and a small Nikon SB-20 flash, for bounce flash. The SB-20 pivots up, and the CTOOM pivots sideways, so everything's covered. The SB-20/CTOOM is a nice little package, and I have a couple of them. The pair makes a nice handle, too, on the left, so I can hold the whole thing up with my left wrist while focusing. This is Tri-X and Voigtlander 21mm @ f5.6, on an M4.
