In the early 1970s Olympus changed the model name of their just released SLR "M1" to "OM1" after approaches from Leitz due to their own "M1" being an established model and, presumably the model no. being already registered.
Chinon in around 1973 released an SLR model also named "M1".
Did Leitz "encourage" Chinon to change their model name, same as Olympus, or did Leitz simply regard the Olympus M1 as being more of a threat to their sales and not bother with Chinon?

Didn’t Nikon have a rangefinder M as well, early on?
