Cameras. I has it.
After 100 responses to the poll:
1 person placed an order
3 people will order in the next 6 months
4 people are undecided
The rest aren't buying it.
This is success!!! for Leica.
With my film cameras and a few old digital ones, I have no need, though I realize that for professionals or amateurs with the money and desire, it may be a great camera for them.

Why is this poll showing success for Leica?
It shows lack of interest.

Times are tough and very few can make an $8300 purchase without thinking about it generally speaking... plus, it's hard to upgrade from the 24mp model to 40mp. It's not worth the hit if you are selling an M10 to get an M10R.

...
Well, first, they have one order.
In six months possibly they will have sold 8 cameras - just to RFF readers.
Selling an expensive niche Leica is not like selling a common ordinary Boeing 787, where after an airshow, the company can have hundreds of orders.
OK, maybe I'm too sarcastic or trying to be funny. Right: there's little interest. Leica is a victim of their previous cameras - and other cameras - being more than good enough. But I'm fond of Leica and wish them success.

While a M10-R would be nice, the M9 continues to suit me well, ten years on. Would the M10-R be worth the AUD $12k+ for me to upgrade? Not for my purposes, I could put that money towards the upcoming Canon R6 and a couple of lenses, which will be well suited to my work, and give decent ROI. And given the economic climate in Australia right now, it's time to be economical and thrifty.

$13,500-00 in AUS. There's not $13.5K in that small package. It's like the Big M fries ....it's a no.

AUD $13.5k?? That's bananas, I could buy (insert generous kit here) with that. With the pro-spec SL2 at around $9600 AUD, it puts the M10-R firmly into the realm of disposable luxury income.

I voted no need to upgrade from my present Leica because fully satisfied with the M10.
But if I had no digital Leica and in the market for one I would evaluate it against the M10P.

I would say both are in that realm...

I don't think there any doubt that Leica cameras are luxury items is there? They're the Montblanc or Rolex(etc) of the camera world.
Can't wait until Leica gets bought by a luxury brands group and we start getting Leica branded perfume.

I hope this thread will not end in the usual discussion about Leica prices. Anyway th Canikons top cameras are not in a much lower price range.
M10R is an interesting camera and it is nice to see Leica working on the M series keeping it simple.

The new Leica M-10 R: To buy to not to buy?
The new Leica M-10 R: To buy to not to buy?
The new Leica M-10 R is definitely an awesome machine, and its 40MP sensor places it at the pinnacle of Leica M digital cameras. However I already own a Leica M-240, and a while back I sold my mint M9 and acquired the original Leica M-10, mostly because it was the first digital Leica M with the slim body contours of my classic Leica M3 and M4 film cameras. I like the handling and form factor of the M-10 very much and its 24MP sensor can capture still images of exceptional quality. Nevertheless if I had the discretionary cash I'd definitely buy a new M-10 R outright, and keep my present M-10. The M-10 R is expensive to be sure, but at only a few hundred bucks more than an M-10 P or M-10 D, it's actually a pretty good deal in the rarefied context of digital Leica Ms. Because of the 40 MP sensor its maximum framing rate is 4.5 fps instead of 5 fps for my M-10, and that's only for a 10 frame sequence, but full-res M-10 R images will have an edge in terms of resolution and detail in large enlargements, as well as enhanced crop-ability. Verdict: If you've got the requisite mazuma, and you hanker for the ultimate digital Leica M, by all means go for it!

Same here, keeping M-E 220 and have Canon RP now, will upgrade my EF lenses to RF.
By the time I'll decide to move on from M-E 220, M10-R is going to be double down in price on used market. M10 cameras seems to be most depreciating in price cameras on the market. Nice trend, with good people buying them new and realizing what mobile phone is better tool for them not only for calls, but also for pictures taking and sharing.

The Leica M-10 R and the average photographer
The Leica M-10 R and the average photographer
Yes, the primary selling point of the new Leica M-10 R is its ultra-hi-res 40MP full-frame CMOS sensor, but I don't think simply highlighting that feature in an ad qualifies as "marketing hype." Strictly speaking you don't need a 40MP sensor to capture images of exceptional sharpness and detail even when they're presented in large print or screen sizes. However, a 40MP sensor can provide a discernible edge if the image is printed out as a photomural, appears on a billboard, or is radically cropped. I do think it's fair to say that Leicas in general, and the M-10 R in particular, are not aimed at the "average photographer."

As far as I understand the marketing hype, the major advantage of the latest and greatest Leica M camera is related to its 40 M pixel count. What advantages does this bring to the average photographer?

Very content with my M10, now fav. camera ever owned. After renting an M6-TTL a few years ago, I wished out loud for a digital version of that, and then M10 came out, and is it (for me). ZM 50/2 is glued to it most of the time, followed by 15/4.5 iii Voigt.

Several years after selling my M9M, and M9 for a M10, the M10M was very appealing for the unique way high ISO noise is handled on a pure monochrome sensor. The extra pixels tipped the balance, so my order was in on launch day for that.
The M10 to M10-R upgrade argument does not have the same weight, and as my money is spent, there is no temptation.
