Hello buddies,

My M2 is good at all speeds, except at 1/8s.
It's way faster, I guess it's equivalent to 1/60 or 1/125.
The question is:
- What cause the issue?
- Is this a easy fix that does not require special parts?
Thank you very much for your opinion if you ever dealt with similar issues.
I did a search here but unfortunately it seems that the thread is deleted, even no cache on Google.

Hey Trung,

not a real answer to your question but back in Jan I had a CLA done on one of my M2 and it came back with the opposite issue, on 1/8 of a sec the curtains stayed open. (no issue on all the other speeds)
Sent it back for a fix and it works fine now.
Indeed the 1/8 of a sec seems to be one of a kind speed on Leica M.

Good luck with yours!

Giulio

Sounds like the slow speeds escapement isn't engaged on the 1/8 setting so instead the shutter is operating at the slowest speed without the escapement (1/50).

To fix this it's a matter of disassembling the camera and adjusting a couple of screws, or something.

I know a local guy here can mange common CLA of Leica,
The thing is: I asked him and he said he never heard about the issue before.
If it's only the problem of slow speed mechanism then it could be easier (as he said), but in my case, only 1/8 speed is defected.
Therefore, if anyone here has faced similar issue before can explain a little bit then I can tell the technician to follow that instruction.
Thanks.

It happens to my Leica M3 DS with 1/5 sec. All other speed working fine
but 1/5 shoots at 1/45 sec (I have measured). I have try adjust shutter speeds, but not luck, if 1/5 slow all other slow speed freeze. Interesting what next slow speed 1/10 sec work fine and accurate.
Speeds escapement mechanism isn't engaged correctly only at 1/5 speed. Finlay I give up and simply ignoring this speed.
