Leica M2 a retirement gift to myself

I made it to 67.5, retired from a job (and profession) that I loved and haven't had a bad day yet. Like Zuiko85, my M4-2 did not fit but I'm still a happy Barnack user. Covid has certainly put a damper on this year but I intend to get the shot and get on with it asap. Here's hoping your M2 is magic. Enjoy freedom.

Well had my last day yesterday after 34 years, the last 15 as a charge nurse in OR, got the traditional, cold water iodine attack, it feels very strange, no more 60-70 hour weeks😱

Well done, Mike! You can be proud of your contribution.

Now go and enjoy your M2. (and beware the list of DIY projects that will be presented by your wife! 😀)

Congrats Mike!! Now, just beware of the words that strike fear in my soul -"you know what we ought to do today??"

Please elaborate on this tradition for us non-nurses. I'm genuinely curious about the what and the why of it all!

The "why" is simple, it's controlled aggression or letting off steam. It happens a lot in jobs where you have to be cool, calm and collected in front of the public/customers.

Please elaborate on this tradition for us non-nurses. I'm genuinely curious about the what and the why of it all!

In acute OR theaters, there was a tradition of Friday let off steam water fights, this did a lot for staff moral and also acted as a way of cleaning the OR room. Part of that tradition was that if anyone left they would ambush him/her, cover then in coffee grounds, talk, betadine, (sort of tar and feathers). This tradition has sort of died out, political correctness and health and safety driven. Thus when it came my turn to leave, I never thought they would resurrect the tradition, and did they get me, about twenty people , all armed with buckets etc, (ice water) etc. For me it was a great way to end a three decade career, for the rest well it was a great way to let off steam after months of wearing PPE in our covid hot environment. 🙂
