I just received an offer for a user chrome M2 for 650. [...] But of course I got to buy a VCII meter.
Or any other meter for that matter. If it doesn't need to be shoe mounted you have much more choice, are likely to pay less money and get to use incident metering. Sounds like an OK offer all in all.

The initial shintaro M2 wasn't such a bad deal, it was 1050 with the VC meter right? Your 650$ with a 200$ CLA plus the 200$ VC meter will get you the same thing. Sintaro CLA the camera when he paints it.

Hi rxmd
I choose VC II because I have read up good reviews of it and feedback from users in RFF is good too. I have not used an external meter or handheld meter before so I am not aware what are the alternatives out there.

The seller has found a buyer already. :bang:

Shintaro does NOT CLA.
Check out the Twinmate. Came as the top meter in the compact poll, IIRC. I used one alongside, and then in replacement of, the VC11. The VCII looks nice, is accurate, but the dials can get knocked out of position. THe Twinmate is cheaper and much more versatile. I think theyre $80 or less used compared to circa $130 for the VC.
If it makes you feel better, I sold my SHintaro M4 because I was too worried about dinging it.

Yes, I guess I am better off with a beat up camera than a nicely painted one because the latter is seriously going to devalue relatively fast given the way I use my camera.

I'm very happy with this M2/VCII setup:

A nice accidental bonus was that the camera with VCII mounted fits nicely inside a standard old Leica never-ready case. The VCII is a really nice little meter, very accurate and quick and easy to use.
I only have about $650 in the whole thing including the meter. Of course that doesn't count the man-hours I put into the repaint/griptac, which wasn't done by a famous restorer (I did it myself) so no collector value was added.
