Leica M2 with glass pressure plate?

I picked up an early Leica M2, serial 939XXX, which dates it to 1958. It has the old style ASA/ISO dial and a glass pressure plate found on earlier M3s. Could this have come from the factory like this or was the original back plate swapped out? Thanks for your time!

Very likely swapped out. I'm not aware of the glass plate having been used with other than the early M3.

My button-rewind M2 is a bit older than yours at 935xxx with the metal pressure plate, not glass, FWiW. Interesting that someone thought to change it for the early M3 part...
