Leica M4-2 Gold

You have very rich tastes Dave. I am basically a dress down kind of guy. Basic black goes with everything in my wardrobe.

Rich taste? Nah...I don't own a single gold anything, not a watch, ring, or anything. But for some reason, the aesthetics appeal to me much in the same way the black and gold Trans Am cars in the late 70s and early 80s did. Never did own one of those either but I loved the look.

But then, I do own a Verdigris M3!😛 I guess I'm just different...

I have only met one guy ever carrying a gold-plated M4-2 with gold-plated lens (Summilux 50/1.4 ?), an elderly Japanese guy at Lemonsha Camera in Ginza (Tokyo). 🙂

I think the dressed up version in your avatar is sublime and much, much more sophisticated looking than that gaudy gold body.

Why thank you, Saul...as the third RFF member owner of this beautiful M3, I can tell you the last 4+ years shooting it has been a pleasure...I do need to find a lens for it don't I?😛

I remember seeing a bunch of gold cameras at a shop in Frankfurt Airport, about 20 or so years ago. There was a gold Leica M, a Nikon, and a couple of other brands of cameras. I assumed at the time that they were aftermarket embellishments. Did Leica actually make any gold plated cameras?

Absolutely! Go to the bottom of this page:

You will see that not only Leica, but Nikon, Pentax, Canon, Olympus....

Quite the thing to do some 30 + years ago.

BTW, the reason I picked up on the M4-2 Gold Edition is because KEH has the complete kit in stock with gold 50 Lux and presentation box for a very reasonable sum....a lot less than the cost of an M-E.

That's the price of a current Summilux alone! I'm not a collector, but that would be fun to show off.

I don't know about the gold one but I sure have a craving for one of the platinum, too bad I will never be able to afford one. Maybe one the members here from the Netherlands could pick up this one for me
Have to agree with Don that the platinum editions are tastefully (if expensively) rendered, particularly the Bruckner.
