Leica M7 Digital Speed Indicator failed

My M7 developped a problem with the shutter speed indicator. One of the bars of the left hand digit for the speed indicator is missing.
Therefore a speed like I000 shows only the half lower part of I but the 000 are displayed OK.
I tried a couple actions like cleaning the back contacts and R&R the batteries with no luck.

Not a biggy as long as I can still interprete the speeds, do you think this is a cheap fix or has any M7 owner got some kind of similar failure ?

Get it fixed either by Leica or an independent tech. I don't understand why people have fine equipment and then won't keep it up.
