Leica M8 Alternate Repairs

Hello,

A friend is offering to sell me a used Leica M8 which has a few issues. It needs to have its shutter blades replaced and needs to be cleaned externally and internally. I contacted Leica repair and they said that the estimated cost to fix would be $950, which is almost the same cost as a used in good condition M8. Are there any alternative repair services that would be less expensive?

Hello, Calleb.
Don't be cheap with digital Leica. If Leica offers re-haul for just 950$ it is best option you could get.
But deal with your "friend" first. Trashed in and out Leica M8 with shutter which needs to be replaced must cost 750$ maximum.
M8 in working condition price is above 1K now, due to disastrous current situation with M9 sensor replacement.
