Henning Mankell reveals this sensational fact in his new book "Kinesen".

I could not find out the English title of the book - it might not be on the market in English yet, so I have to translate from the German edition "Der Chinese".

The plot starts in January 2006. The photographer Karsten "... grabbed his Leica M8, which had been accompanying him already for ten years ..."

Why did Leitz supply cameras to Swedish professionals so much earlier than to ordinary people??? 😱 😡

I have just started to read.... But already 20 people dead after 60 pages - including the photographer, who runs away before, dropping that precious M8 on the ground!! 😀

Goes to show you: When you steal an M8 from the future, even though it may take a decade, Leica's Time Troopers WILL eventually find you...

Probably just a typo. Happens ALL THE TIME with translations.
 
I had a Canon F-1 disappear from my apartment 32 years ago; other than the likely answer (someone lifted it), I might imagine it disappearing through a worm-hole back to the mid-50s, where a handsome dude with a drooping cigarette is trying to figure out the built-in meter right now...😛
