M7 all the way ... I have a certain lens line-up and don`t want to change anything about it. Therefore dRF has to be FF for me... Also the M7 can still be fully serviced, the M8 not so (LCD display) ...

I miss my M8 and have 2 M5's that sit behind my TLR's for personal work. I would definitely go for the M8. So should you

Film or digital?
Also, the crop on the M8 could be fun or annoying... Up to you.
I'd go with the M7.

I'd go with the M7.

Neither. Buy a nice Leica III instead. Put the price difference into film.

Desperate but not serious
I've owned both.
M7 hands down.
Plus the M8 will only lose value.

I'd save up a little more to get an M9. If I had to choose between the two, I think I'd go for the M8. I have a lovely M3 and would like a digital M.

I would get the M7 if you want it to keep it's value. I just got rid of my M8, it was an amazing camera, but at the same time, not. Too much cons that outweigh the cost of keeping the camera. If you want a good digital, go NEX or Fujifilm for half the price!
If you dont have a leica, then just get an M6 and a XE-1 for a coupla hundred bucks over the cost of either one of those other cameras

Just wait another one or two years you'll find yourself hesitating between the M8 and a M3.
I'd grab the M7.

M8... digital fits my workflow, film doesn't. I use a M8.

If you'd asked this question 4 years ago, I think most people would have recommended the M8. Now they will probably recommend the M7. We don't know your criteria, or what other cameras you have.
For me, I have an M9P and quite fancy a film Leica to go with it, so probably M7. If I had no digital Leica, I'd be choosing the M8.

wintoid, i have the exact sentiments. i like the m7 for the Aperture priority shooting. i like the m8 for the price and the high shutter speed.

I'd choose the M7, but can't say I want either. $1700 buys too many other lovely cameras.

If you have already an m6-m3 and a nice 35mm lens then go for the m8....you won´t be disappointed...it´s a terrific camera

M7 easily. And from a dealer, not from Ebay.

With that said, there are quite a few, not saying many, but some professionals who say that the frame lines accuracy on the M8 render it almost useless? If so, that will be a huge drawback for many people. And for me, the value of the M7 doesn't seem to be dropping as fast as the M8, so that might be the way to go...

I paid about US$1800 three and a half years ago for my M7, factory refurbished with optical DX reader and MP finder upgrade, including one year warranty (from popflash.photo). Prices seems to be about the same level these days so not really a loss.

M7 for me. Only because it will still work (with some TLC) in ten years time.
The M8 would be fun to use but for how long?
