Good for a chuckle...

Earlier today, over at Photo Net, there was a brief thread on the old Los Bravos tune "Black Is Black" from 1966 as the "Theme to the M8 introduction and fix". I decided to have some fun with the lyrics and posted them there - I thought some might find it funny -

Black ain't black
I want my money back
I got my way,
And got the M8 today, Ooh-Ooh
What can I do
'Cause bla-ha-ha-ha-ack's a diff'rent hue

If I had my way
I'd have my M3 today
But I don't intend
To use any film again, Ooh-Ooh
What can I do
'Cause bla-ha-ha-ha-ack's a diff'rent hue

I can't choose
It's too much to lose
Filter's too strong
Wow! Maybe if we
petition the company
a refund won't be too long

Bad is bad
That I feel so sad
It's time, it's time
That I found peace of mind, Ooh-Ooh
What can I do
'Cause bla-ha-ha-ha-ack's a diff'rent hue

I can't choose
It's too much to lose
Filter's all wrong
Wow! Maybe if we
petition the company
a refund won't be too long

Black ain't black
I want my money back
I got my way,
And got the M8 today, Ooh-Ooh
What can I do
'Cause bla-ha-ha-ha-ack's a diff'rent hue

Of course there's always "Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones, "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden, "Back In Black" by AC/DC, "Black Dog" by Led Zeppelin, "Black Water" by The Doobie Brothers, etc. etc. etc. :D

Good going, Dave!

Given my misgivings about Leica's rush to get the M8 to market, and everybody else's rush for it to be released, I thought the theme song should be the Cars' It's All I can Do, which, scarily enough, wouldn't need much retooling:

One too many times I fell over you
Once in a shadow I finally grew
And once in a night I dreamed you were there
I canceled my flight from going nowhere

It's all I can do
To keep waiting for you
It's all I can do
(it's all I can do)

Given the outcome, the new theme song should be the Stones' You Can't Always Get What You Want (which I think also should've been the theme song for Microsoft's introduction of Windows 95, instead of Start Me Up...but I'm a Mac guy, so you'd expect that). That could use some lyric tweaking, but I'll leave that to someone else here. ;)

(P.S. Before anyone asks: yes, I thought of the Kinks' Tired Of Waiting, but I preferred this)

I'm sure if Johnny Cash was still with us he could have written some excellent lyrics ... as "The Man In Magenta"

.... I can't get no satisfaction...
- since we seem to be on a roll with the Stones-

(edit) Let's not hope it comes to "Cause I try, and I try and I try.."_

How's this?

I see a cashmere
And I want it rendered black
No purples any more
I want it rendered black

I see the girls go by
In their black Prada clothes
I put my filter on
To ease my IR woes

He's in a pricey tux
I want it rendered black
The bride's blown out a touch
But the groom's not prop'ly black

My clients see the proofs
And quickly run away
Seems to happen every time
I start to click away

I write to Leica's techs
To ask them "where's the black?"
It's been a week or two
They haven't written back

Bought a brick of Portra now
'Cause I can't face the facts
I can't shoot some gala when
They're all decked out in black!

No more will those cool fabrics
Show their proper hue
I could not foresee this
From all the bucks I blew

If I scream loud enough
They'll hear me back in Solms
Maybe they'll get cracking
Just before the M9 comes

(Repeat first two stanzas)

Whew...back to my picture editing.
