Hi

I am a RF newbie.

Been using Nikon & Canon SLRs and DSLR.

I am planning to get Leica M system, but I heard

they are launching 6Bit lenses for M Digital body and M8.

Is M8 coming out soon?

Because I don't want to get M7 if M8 will be lanuched soon.

If anyone know or heard new/rumors on M8, please share it with me~

M8 will be announced at Photokina at the end of September. There is a lot of discussion here on RFF about it already.

BUT -- the M8 will be the digital camera. The M7 and MP will be continued for those who prefer to use film.

The coding just tells the digital camera which lens is in use, so it can record this information in the digital file and make some image-quality corrections. You'll still be able to use the uncoded lenses on the M8, and coding will make no difference to the M7 or MP.

Hi,

I also come from SLR country and I decided to first investigate the Leica thread/screw mount (LTM) cameras before heading towards M country. Now, the LTMs are very charming but not too user friendly, so I'm with Terence that a Bessa is a good way to figure out if you like RF or not. Another option is to buy an M3 or M2. The advantage of that approach is that you're working with Leica (I don't know if I would like the feel of the Bessas myself). The disadvantage is that you need to find a good second hand source. If you have experience on eBay or you have a local dealer, then no problem. Otherwise, stick to new equipment and get a Bessa to try RF out.

If you would get charmed by the LTM cameras, there's convertor rings to mount LTM lenses on M cameras, so money spent on those lenses isn't wasted. Same issue with the second hand market, though.

Peter.
