assuming that the m9 will depreciate 1k after 1 year, it'll only cost $6500, or 13 months at saving $500 a month. if i can sell my mp for $2500 after the one year, one leica project, it'll only take 8 months to save up the necessary funds.

Leica has received a very good response so far from the dealers.

There will be a shortage in the UK - M9s will be supplied in two lots.
First lot available from Thursday and the Second lot coming in 10 days.

I bet there will still be a long queue.

I bought my M8 here in NYC. it was announced September 2006. I bought mine in April of 2007. And I still had to wait a week for it to come in.

okay, the tip from my source on the UK price has been found to be almost accurate. £4850 instead of £4900!

may be there was a last minute change in the price - perhaps, a negotiation between Leica and dealers whether to price it 4900 or 4800, and they might have settled for the mean price of £ 4850 .

doing a bit of math at those numbers (loose, loose math for the record) i could run about 5 years of film through my m6 for the price of the m9. i know this is a bit of a cliche argument but it pretty much settles it for me.

What if you calculate the price of a new m6, a filmscanner AND film? 😛 i would not come even close to 5 years of film with that package..

so,

$6999 US = $7556 CND

$7556 x 14% (tax) = $8600'ish

8600/365 = A WHOLE LOT OF FILM!

(this is only my justification for not loading up my credit line as you know i really want to😉)

Well, I've got an MP and a bloody good scanner.

Then I cost film at $10/roll and my time (going to and from the lab, and scanning) at a nominal $20/hour and the M9 STILL comes out ahead after very few years.

The time I save is, to borrow emraphoto's style, A WHOLE LOT OF SHOOTING TIME.

Yes, I prefer film for B+W. No contest. Hence MP. But in colour: M8.2 and (soon, I hope) M9.

I was talking about colour. For B+W I use the MP, as I said in the earlier post. But I use colour mostly for illustration, including pack shots, step-by-steps and the like, as well as travel. Where digital REALLY scores is for a magazine illustration where I would previously have had to use a whole roll of film for one shot; take it to the lab; and pick it up later.

Costs on B+W? HP5 from Mailshots in the UK is £27.90 for 10 rolls plus shipping; call it £3 a roll, or near enough $5. Calculating dev costs is difficult but let's stick with your $1. Sure, less than commercially processed colour, but twice what you're paying for B+W. What film are you using?

The cheapest home-processed colour slide (Fuji Sensia) is about the same as HP5 from Mailshots again plus £2-3 a roll processed in Tetenal 1l kits + sleeves + slide mounts: call it £6/roll or indeed about $10.

i shoot primarily arista premium 400, a bit of kentmere 400 and neopan 400 in 120.

i don't shoot a whole lot of color these days and when the situation demands i run it through my friends lab. $5 for negs. i have a little pocketbook with all the rebranded films. shoppers rebranded 400 is superia, that sort of thing. i can usually get color film at $2 a roll.

i apologize if this makes the price of film in europe less palatable.
