Very lucky that it hit the hood, to be honest 🙂 truly a testament to the use of proper, metal lens hoods. Would like to know how the Camera functioned after though. I should think that the Rangefinder wasn't very happy - nor the elements in his lens.

Same here. Curious about the survival of the camera as a functioning camera. Still, pretty amazing.
I once dropped my car key in the driveway and it shattered into pieces.......I was in Bozeman MT, and the ambient temp was at least -44F, possibly colder. That's 44 degrees below zero. Things behave differently when that cold. Cameras included. I had a heck of a time using any form of electronic gear. The M3 worked, but even that wonderful mechanical gem was sluggish if I kept it out in the air for too long.
But I digress. I always like it when my stuff survives, even at the expense of the ground.
