I recently photographed Russell Simmons for the WSJ with the Leica M9. Here are the results (ps it's great to be able to shoot assignments with Leica's again) http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100...02304575214083184298548&articleTabs=slideshow

Tell him for me that his shoe collection is 1) atrocious [the brand...] and 2) too large
Nice work of you can get it...

Cool beans. Nice to see another news photographer using Leica's.
Quick question. Who's the photo editor at the WSJ? I sent in my resume last week but addressed it to the managing editor. I couldn't find the name of the photo editor. Feel free to PM.

Good work. He sounds like an interesting man - vegan, yoga meditation.

Like the Maybach shot ... but I'm not sure what you mean by "it's nice to be able to shoot assignments with Leicas again" ... I don't see how the M9 has such a huge jump in function over the M8, unless you purely need the larger file sizes. I would think you could have taken these with an M8 just as easily.

My M5s need red dots!
Thanks for sharing, Aaron! Nice job.

I can understand the remark - the difference between M8 and M9 seems to be not that much looking at the specifications - but as an owner of both, I can vouch the total is more than the sum of the parts. The M9 is the M8 grown adult. I can well imagine that for a professional user the difference is crucial.Like the Maybach shot ... but I'm not sure what you mean by "it's nice to be able to shoot assignments with Leicas again" ... thanks,
Russell Simmons really is a very nice guy with an excellent taste in art.
As for more assignments shot with a M, nearly everything i shot before 2001 was with M's in film, then I switched to Canon for editorial, then back to M's a few years ago with the M8 but I always had to back that up with the Canon, so it's a mixed bag, but most of my website is M work: www.aaronleefineman.com (the detroit series is all M8, American Creed & JROTC is all M film, Rave is mixed Nikon and M)
As for m9 vrs m8,
- i use a 28mm lens a lot, that requires an accessory viewfinder for m8, which is a pain in the ass at that focal length (i got spoiled by my m6's)
- also i had a ton of problems with the m8 (freezing up, not shooting frames when it acted like it was, and that horrible green line crap)
- that said, m9 is slower than m8 but it's a much better camera
side note on M8,
- i recently printed a few 24x36 inch prints from m8 files and was amazed at how sharp they were and how well they held up. they blew the 5d files out of the water! i can only imagine that the m9 files will print even better than the m8 ones.
& Ken I will PM you.
