Some rumours about new digital rangefinder Leica M9, leaked from Leica Camera R&D department.
Since M8 isn't a cure against crappy shots of family and pets, M9 will be substantially different. New model will be targeted to true photo enthusiasts, not just rich snapshooters and celebrities.
So , there are key differences from M8 and from any other digital crap:
1. No LCD. No preview, no more "shoot-look-delete" idiom . True photogs don't produce crappy shots, so there is nothing to delete.
2. RAW only. The camera produces true "digital negs", not just pics for blogs out of the box.
You need to work on them hard, to make shots look "snappy".
3. Advance lever is mandatory to prepare for the next shot.
4. Continious shooting is limited to 36 shots. You need to wait for 2-3 minutes to "reload" the camera.
5. To prepare for download negs to the computer, you need to crank manual rewind handle.
6. Software for conversion digital negs into JPEGs or other images is something special. It simulates development of the real film as close as possible. You can do it in "dummy" mode, just set the time and rotation, as you would for rotary processor. Or you can simulate manual agitation of the tank, and produce different negative density and contrast.
7. Especially for B&W enthusiasts, there will be a M9 BW Limited. A camera with special sensor, able to capture b&w images only. It has incredible dynamic range and shadow resolution, and buit-in system of color filters (red/green/yellow,etc).
Price isn't annoynced yet, but it's expected to be higher then regular M9.
p.s. it's a joke

...concerning lever winder, raw photo software, download, senseless use of screen - doesnt the Epson R-D1 comes close?
Nevertheless, doesnt save you for puppy snapshots, they are possible as well

To be honest most of that sounds like nonsense. 2-3 minute wait time, because that's so useful?
No wonder most pros use a DSLR.

Minoltist7: Wasn't there an additional extra available (for addtional cost, I am sure) concerning #4 of your list:
The built-in GPS device to make sure that you only will get the "reload" if you are in the near of a certified Ilford shop ;-)
Cheers, Andreas

For (4) (Continuous shooting): three options
Old Pro -- 60 seconds wait between each 36 frames
Novice -- 3 minutes
Fumblefingers/unlucky: 5 minute wait, then no frames at all recorded the next 36 times you press the release.

Does the leaked data indicate how Leica will handle the smell of developer? If there isn't a timed "spritz" of developer smell from the camera like those room air fresheners or something similar then we're talking deal killer.

Shooter of Film...
I like the "No LCD" part...real photogs don't live in the past, they live for the future...
^^^^Please don't ask what that means^^^^
I still like the no lcd statement...

I would totally go for a digital with no LCD. I can't tell you how annoying it is to be on assignment and have someone want to "check" your work.

+1. "So, what? Show me what you shot right now!"
All this thoughts evolved from feeling that modern DSLRs are too sophisticated and overloaded by bells and whistles. I would love such digital camera, which doesn't feel like digital and have only primitive analog controls. R-D1 came close to this conception, afaik it even doesn't have USB connection to the computer.
And , yes, it has b&w filters simulation.

I doubt.
"Continious shooting is limited to 36 shots. You need to wait for 2-3 minutes to "reload" the camera."
-- why 36? is it to simulate a roll of film? none sense. this technology is surpass years ago. unless your going to have 40MP FF sensor there
"To prepare for download negs to the computer, you need to crank manual rewind handle."
--it will be more complicated to produce tiny parts just make this happen.

wait, is this a joke? is it april fools day? I hope not. no offense. imho.

Leica has licensed face recognition technology from Canon for the M9. The M9 will have an A.R.B.U.S. feature and the prosessor will only save the image in grainy b/w if the camera recognizes an unual looking face. A.R.B.U.S. - Artist Recognizes Butt Ugly Subject.

You mean you don't have the hypo scratch and sniff air fresheners?
Will be built in to the Vulcanite of course, thought that would be obvious. ;-)
Was this posted 4/1 and just got "leaked" ?

Vulcanite? Where have you been? The M9 will have the herpes infected Emu skin. The price reflects certain market surveys that the user will lick it.

Should that not be 37 frames with the last one having some flakes of digital film in the "sprockets", and for Fumblefingers-- give it 50 blank frames.

I was thinking the Vulcanite options would be Swine Flu Porcine, and saving the Emu for the Bird Flu.

... And a special Kodachrome-color emulation. But you have to send the SD-card to Dwayne's at Kansas to have it downloaded to a DVD.

Why try to make digital into something it isn't? Digital is for taking loads of crappy shots and deleting them without consequence. Film is for serious photogs who work hard to ensure that every shot is a "keeper." Such a process forces you to either; get good at it, or get out!

Where to begin.
Krishilife, 99% of PJ's and other professional photographers shoot with digital. Your conclusion is that it is all crap? Interesting.
