Does anyone knows if camera shops in Beijing have Leica equipment?

Last year, or was it the year before, Solms edited a special MP "classic" black paint with Summicron 50 also black paint (still no meter like the original MP).

This camera was made for the Chinese market through the regional distributor Schmidt group.

So I was wondering....

No and no. I have been to a good number of the leica/whatever shops in beijing and guangzhou, they are all over priced and have poor service from what I have seen. You have to remember in china there is hardly any decent used camera market so if it were me (and many times it has been) buy from here new: http://cokin.com.cn/ or here used: http://www.digifan.cn/ or maybe here: http://exchange.xitek.com/search.php? and sometimes here: http://www.taobao.com/

and the camera you are talking about was the m6p I believe, or it was the m6 dragon, either way they are blooooody expensive (well over 40,000 RMB)

I do not know about Beijing, but regarding Guangzhou, near my present location, in the computer center there in Tien He, there is a camera section. Found a fine LowePro backpack there.

Leica has a modular display there in Guangzhou as well, complete with an M8's. The Leica display is exaclty the same as I saw at Yodobashi, in Tokyo. Hong Kong is of course repleat with Leica dealers and a distributor. If you like, I will check further on the Beijing connection. As Avotius points out, prices start high here and price negotiation common. In China its best to know with whom you are dealing before dealing!

one other thing you might try is to find out what the place is called then research them online, one of the shops in guangzhou whos name I forget I remember I was looking at a m7, they had it tagged for 20,000 but I knew of course that a lot of negotiation would be needed, well I found them online and they had a store with the same camera and a price well under their marked price, so....ya, give it a shot.

There is a great camera market in Shanghai, just off of Chongqing Road (and Luban Road).
It is a recent'y opened multy-story building full of shops of all types, from very serious and reasonably competitive used equipment dealers to specialists in large format, darkroom gear, or the DSLR market. A handful of the shops deal in Leica gear.
