Hey,

First post here, but long time Leica shooter. I currently own a Leica M7 but have had my eye an MP as a second body for some time. I'd like to purchase a new one and have been considering an Al La Carte MP to get the green leather . I have a few questions for those who have gone the MP route.

1. How nice is the leather? Does it have that lovely high quality leather smell to it? 🙂

2. How long did it take to make and receive your MP? I was quoted 12-16 week by Leica Miami. Is this the norm?

3. Did you have any issues with your build?

4. Anyone do the custom engraving? Thoughts? Was it worth it? Regrets?

Any other thoughts/help on the matter would be appreciated!

I ordered an ALC MP with the following configuration: 0.58 viewfinder, 4 frame lines (28/90, 35, 50), black paint, classic engraving, vulcanite.

Ordered on April 17, 2015. Received August 10, albeit with the wrong configuration, instead of Classic engraving I got a no-engraving at all, pure black paint everywhere, with no writing anywhere.

It looked nice, but since it was not what I originally wanted I was given the option to either get a refund or return it for Leica to bring it back to the original configuration.

I opted to send it back and I received the same (serial number) camera back with the proper configuration on December 21, 2015.

It took a long time (total of 16.71 weeks). I was surprised they made such an obvious error. But I really like the camera and use it almost every day since it was delivered.

My wife told me to order an a la carte for my 60th birthday 9 years ago. Isn't she cool! I ordered a MP in black chrome with the .85x RF, ostrich leather and my signature on the back. It has the traditional wind and rewind.

I bought it through Pop Flash and everything went smooth. I think it arrived on schedule and everything was exactly as I ordered. And yes I love my signature on the back and the ostrich leather.

The only glitch was the shutter failed at a bad time on a documentary shoot in a serpent handling church in Kentucky. Fortunately I had two more MP's with me.

I'm delighted with it!

It were not the camera that were accursed, it were the serpents what done it.

I stood between four men handling rattlers and the man in front of me had a cobra. I watched the man three feet to my right get bitten by a 5ft rattler. It takes less than a minute for the venom to circulate the body. The preacher at this church died from a rattlesnake bite in church a year ago. I know several people that have lost family to bites in church.

Thanks for everyone's replies! Still figuring out what to do as of now. Whether to purchase a pre-made standard model or go chrome with green leather 🙂
