Here is the fairy tale, just CLA by Sherry Krauter.She has a MP on her site for 28,000.00us. 🙂 They are right ,the MP was used by photo journalist and this one has been used alot. But there are lots of rich people that want one.I'm just very lucky.Feel free to buy it guys.

The lady and the man have been separated for 20 years. They did not get a divorsce.After he passed, she came back here to throw away all his stuff, so she could sell the house they owned together. If she had been married to this man living in the same house and country all her life , of course I would of told her what she was throwing away, I only found out what a Lica was the day I saw this diffrent looking camera.And started looking on the internet.As Lica photgraph as you guys are and love your cameras I thnk this man would rather someone who appreciate the Lica camera have it and not her or me.So no she can not get anything.

IMHO, you don't have the right to decide wether she is getting anything or not, and - comes to mind - what you do is actually basically illegal. If they didn't divorce in 20 years, they probably had their reasons for that; wether their reasons were, whatever the situation was between them, she has all legal rights to her husband's heritage and you are basically stealing it from her.

Again, are you sure you want to do that?

Whatever. You might find all sort of justifications for your act, but the right thing to do was to go to her and tell her what you found and what it was (or could have been) worth.

This was the honest thing to do. What you did, was the best thing for YOU. As you can understand, these are two very different things: I know what I would have done, you did what you did, people are different. No big deal, right? Well, it might be a big deal for you - making money out of it without any merit other than being sneaky - and for her - loosing money, but you wouldn't worry about that, would you? Your actions tell me you didn't worry about it very much, and just did what brought you the best advantage in the situation. I am pretty sure you would do the same again, as I would do what I would have done again - so there isn't probably much point in discussing. I stand by my position, you basically stole from her, whatever angle you try to look at it from.

Vieri, If it will make you feel better.Buy the camera and we can try to find where she lives in the world and you can give it back to her.You will feel better I will feel better .As for me , its like going to a yard sell paying a quater for something and then finding out it was worth much more.She threw it away! This is my last post.I do not own the camera anymore.Thanks for your help with the camera.Please tell your wife's what you own because if she every leaves you for 20 years and comes back to throw your stuff in the trash.Someone like me might be lucky enough to find it. No, I am not kidding. She clearly didn't know what the thing was worth, and as a friend of the deceased IMHO the honest and right thing to do was to advice her about it, not just take the camera "off the garbage bin" and run.

No, thanks. I am not going to buy the camera and send it to her. You might have advised her about the possible camera's value, now is quite a bit late - yard sale? No sir, not quite the same thing; you should know the difference without me telling you. I hope you made enough money out of it and that you are happy. Please restrain from giving unwanted & unsolicited advice about me and my family, rather just mind your own business and try develop your moral values, and in the meantime make sure you will keep clear of my garbage bin after I will be gone 😉

If it were me, I would just keep it, use it, I am a photographer. But if I did sell it, depending YOUR income bracket, I would donate about 10 grand to a charity that really needs it.

But in no way could I sell it for top dollar and keep it all in good conscience.

Karma. Hope you have either A: serious need for the money, IE, jobless, in debt, etc.

Or B, have good health insurance and wear lots of sun screen, look both ways before crossing, don't make anyone mad on the road, look for falling pianos, eat well, don't smoke, watch out for banana peels, don't climb anything above 3rd class pitches unroped, and above all, some how, you had damn well better...

He didn't steal anything from anyone. She threw it out . Neither one of them knew what it was worth at the time, but to her it was trash. I don't think he's under any moral obligation to educate her on her ignorance. She could have had it appraised before disposing of it. It belongs to the new owner and he can do what ever he wants with it.

As a student 35 years ago I had the chance to buy a Compur-Leica from an old lady in her 80ties then! She had answered on one of my "Wanted ads" in a local newspaper. She invited me for a coffee and cake and showed me her late husband`s treasure. She was awfully nice and definitely could need some extra money. She was totally unaware of the special collector`s value. I could have snapped up the camera for maybe 200 or 300 Dollars then. I just couldn`t do it! Impossible. It would have been like stealing her savings from the sugar bowl. I told her about a possible higher value and arranged a sale using an advertisement in one of the foto magazines around. It sold for 6000 DM, which was an awfull lot of money then, I got 500 DM reward and free coffee and cake for the rest of her years.
I guess the money finally went to some greedy family member, who might possibly have put grandfather`s old rubbish in the bin!
