For those of you who have recently purchased new MPs, or anyone who just happens to know. What is approximately the most current SN? Thanks.

I'm looking at a used 35xxxx and was wondering how new it is.

Luke I use cameras from 1939 to 2008. Even own one from 1918. The year doesn't really make a difference as long as it's in good working order. If it works, looks good and is the right price, buy it and you'll stop missing the photos that you're not making right now because you don't have it.

I actually already bought it because the price was right! It hasn't arrived yet and I'm now just wondering when it was made just for curiosity's sake.

I got this mint body two weeks ago.
According to Mr. Puts, it should be something around 2003.
Seriously, don't sweat the build date, check the camera, if it is in described condition and use it.
It doesn't matter, if it has been produced last week or last year. If anything, the 2003 models might be looked after more in 50 or 60 years, as of their first production year.
I might sell mine then and do a week on a tropical island from the money with all the cold drinks and … if I am still around by then ;-)
"Leica MP vs M8.2"
What might be interesting to some are the later delivered a la carte samples with details, one might like more.
I was interested actually in a non engraved top deck or vulcanite cover, but this deal came earlier and I love it already - I'll give it some use now.

Leica assign serial numbers in batches as far as I know, so the last serial number stamped could in theory be the first camera made in that batch. So you are aiming at a moving target unless you ask the current owner when it was bought new, and assuming it came fresh from the factory and wasn't sitting around in a dealers window for six months (unlikely).

Mine is 383xxxx, purchased new in December 2010 pretty much the same day my dealer received it from Leica USA. I was told at the time that the demand for MPs was greater than Leica's ability to make them, which surprised me. On the other hand, while production is "steady" (again, according to my dealer) not a lot of cameras are coming out of Solms each week.

Okay cool, exactly what I was wanting to know. So 35XXX is a relatively new production camera apparently.

Ashamed to admit that only my 4th roll is in the camera right now but I'm looking forward to some warmer weather and some upcoming travel to help push a lot more through.... But so far, I am really loving the satisfying feel of the MP (operationally & ergonomically). I've also been away from film for quite a few years and now feel like I'm getting reacquainted with a dear old friend.
