Leica MP US $205,676.60

hehehe! That really puts things into perspective. I was totally mesmerized by the thread until Archiver's post brought things back to reality - ie. that whether or not it's a repaint, it's still just as much of a rip-off for 205k!!!

Yep. Value is obviously relative, things are only worth as much as people are willing to pay for them, and even then, only to the person paying the money. For a collector it might be worth it. For folks who aren't willing to commit those kinds of finances to a camera, it sure is not!

Those two "L"'s are on different cameras. They are both tilted differently within the little hole, and the scratches are different in each picture.

That's right. They are two different cameras. I posted them as a comparison.
The thing is to repaint an M you have to break that seal.

So after the repaint who re did the seal? Considering the asking price I think that's a fair question.

yeah, and being sold by a seller with ZERO feedback!
indeed! Why would you buy a camera for 200k, then put it straight back on ebay as an auction. Good way to loose a load of cash! Must be a fake auction.

Back to the actual camera, I dont think ill ever understand why someone would pay that much! That amount of money could be put to much better use imo

So the general consensus is that if someone pays that price for that camera, they are getting ripped off?
That's not my opinion. It might be damn good investment, particularly with the trend in Leica prices. I don't move in these circles however (and probably never will).

i don't know, i still think the M8 looks much better.

Hmmmm, but all we really know is that it was put up for sale and 6 offers were made and the auction ended. The question is; was it paid for?

As soon as I can find a doner early M3 for the shell and top plate I'm going to make one of these as my next project!
This one is definately an odd one. All the pics I've looked at of originals show an M3 type rewind release with the arrow and the R. This, although having an M3 window type top has no arrow and the shorter M2 type release. My bet is that it is either a very elaborate fake or that it's original special order from the factory to the taste of the buyer.
Whatever it is it's my favorite looking M as is the MP3.
My ideal un metered M would be this type of M3 buddha ear shell with the window top plate but the innards of the M2 with 35, 50 and 90 frame lines.
