Thinking of getting the Leica Multifinder 21-24-28 but wanted to get feedback first. Anyone has used this thingy before? Feedback appreciated. Thanks.

Got one. It does have allot of barrel distortion which makes it difficult (for me) to get the camera level in relation to the horizon. One thing I disagree on the other replies is that I do find the image bright in the finder. The construction is very solid although a little bulky as stated above. I did not purchase the other finder for the 21 Elmarit I have because it is made out of plastic. The Multi finder is mached out of aluminum and so more sturdy. This last trip I had out west I used it most of the time, especially in the redwood forrest. I am now getting confident in using it to frame and I have had it for something like 8 or 10 months. So it does take so consistant use to get the knack of getting your image level without a bubble level attached as well.

I do not know of any alternative viewfinders constructed as well as the multi finder from Leica.

Thanks all. I am considering. The main reason for it currently is that it will be convenient to have only one finder on a body when I am out with two or more wide angles.

Hi Peter,

I have one of them and they are super handy and bright. I wish they made one that covers 21/24. By the way, I heard that the Leica multifinder is made by Cosina Voigtlander.

Cheers,
Paul

If you have the dough, you might consider the new Zeiss finder. If I remember correctly it does 21/25/28. It does not change magnification -- it does framelines. It is incredibly clear, and I don't really remember much distortion. The bad news is that it is 400 something bucks. (I think it is Zeiss's secret plan to make up the difference in price between their bodies and Leicas with finders and hoods).

compared to the Leica, the price is not too expensive. I have seen one in Tokyo and its very nice. The only thing is that it does not cover 21. It would be great finder to use with the Canon 25F3.5 though.
