Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH review

i'm sure there are plenty of review of this lens but i quite like your honest assessment. i'm feeling the same toward super fast lens that they are not very usable at the max wide open aperture and for a 50, i like f2.8 -> f2 look more. well worth a try though. the lux and the nokton series are my top choices for fast 50s, very well behaved.

I actually found the Noct to be quite sharp at the center, resolution-wise it does not lag behind the lux ASPH until the outer 15-20% of the frame. Are you sure your body and lens are calibrated?

I use mine with a Sony A7, so no concerns about body matching lens...

Didn't you als switch camera's from a Monochrom to a M240 when you switched lenses? That would make it hard to compare? Especially sharpness? My 50 summilux is nowhere near as sharp on the M240 as on the Monochrom. (Not a calibration issue btw)

Thanks for the review. It confirms in practice what I theorized, ie the summilux is just the better all round lens for me. 😉

Yes. My M240 and Noctilux was sent back twice to Leica for calibration and tuning. Also, when focus really mattered I used the EVF which makes it easy to do precise focusing.

In my experience it's less sharp then the 50 Lux that I currently have. although, I have to admit, the 2nd 50 Lux that I got seems a whole lot sharper wide open than the first one I had. Maybe I just got a very good copy. Or maybe my Noctilux was a bad copy (no indications of this though). Stopping the Noct down to f/1.4 made it a whole lot sharper in the center, but still not as sharp as my current Lux. Very visible difference.

I had a MM and a Lux some years ago, but I sold both. I then got a M240 + Noctilux brand new. I used that combination for 10 months until I purchased a new Lux, and had both the Noctilux and Summilux at the same time for about two months before I decided to let the Noctilux go, simply because for my use the Summilux is the better option. So I have compared the Noct and the Lux on the same M240 for two months overlapping.

Thanks for the answer and for the review.
