This could be the next big thing for iconic camera maker Leica

•Leica collaborated with Chinese smartphone maker Huawei on a dual-camera system as part of a strategic partnership
•Andreas Kaufmann, chairman of the company's supervisory board, told CNBC his personal dream was to one day see a "true Leica phone"

Leica is pretty good designing software interfaces, as their latest cameras demonstrate. But would it be enough to enter this very competitive game?

They don't have the muscle for a full app and music/tv stores so they will be stuck with an existing platform, likely android. So their software interface would be limited to a skin and a few apps. I'd like to see them develop a camera app using the two cameras as an electronic RF, but I don't want to know what it'd cost...

They teamed up with Huawei some time ago. Have a look at the P10 for a phone with Leica cameras.

But is this Huawei (or next model of it) a "true Leica phone"?

Actually, already the P9 was co-engineered with Leica

And half a year after its release (April 2016) - if you believe the American press - Apple "invented" the dual camera phone (iPhone 7).

A very tough Game.. even Nokia failed.

Huawai is doing quite well, actually

Does the iPhone7 have a Leica camera too?

If only they could name it less awkward. Like Apple, BlackBerry :). Right now the name of phone manufacturer is not even GoldStar. It is something what if I pronounce it with my accent sounds like "d_ck quality" in Russian. :D

10P or 10P+ to be exact. It is reported to be with Leica camera. If I understand it right, 9P was with Leica help to make it. Engineering collaboration they called it back then. Just like BlackBerry did it with Porsche one time, but it was ugly duckling made from gold.

but the point was a "true Leica phone", Kaufmann's dream. if I read the article, seems he would like something more than co-engineer a Chinese phone.
Leica has always done it this way: Cooperate -read badge engineer - with a far-East company: Minolta for R cameras and zoom lens technology, Kyocera for film compacts, Panasonic for digital compacts and nowadays for the full digital technology, and then pour their own secret sauce over it. I expect the first red-dot phone in a few years.
