I also read this:
"As Dave Farkas, major US dealer, just posted on LUF, The M9, S2, X1 and S lenses will stay at the 2009 prices. D-lux 4, M lenses and accesories will indeed go up. That makes the Leica cameras in the USA darn cheap for the rest of the world with the $ at 66 Eurocent and dropping…"
So maybe you don't have to rush out to buy the M9 yet. But do get that 75mm Summilux.![]()
That one has been out of the catalog for quite some years

Well..
SOMEONE'S gotta pay for the Leica employees C.O.L.A.
That said, this happens every year and every year everyone complains and every year Roger, Jaap and a number of other say "Are you going to BUY new equipment? Then why are you complaining??" etc. etc.
It's like the "cycle of life" only not ... hehehe..
Cheers,
Dave
Hey! We remember the times when the pound was equivalent of 6 € and the $ 2€, a few years before the Euro, though

Think Different
I remember a time (mid-1990s?) when Leica USA advertised, "Buy an M6 and get $500.00 back!" This was back in the good ole days when the U.S. dollar was worth something.

Better hurry and beat the year end rush; buy two or three M9's and a couple of 21 luxes. See the thread about student discounts. Enroll in an MFA program. Leverage the thousands you'll pay in grad school tuition to earn a 10% savings on your next M9.
Damn, I'm trying to find some spare change to sneak an old Rolleiflex into my house without my noticing.

Prices on ... everything always increase basically. Dont see many price cuts (apart from sales etc).

I think camera manufacturers (smartly so) tend to do price cuts with rebates. That way we don't get used to lower prices again that will inevitably be raised again in the future.
While the economy wasn't great at the beginning of this year, the dollar did strengthen against the euro and we saw rebates on Leica most lenses. I don't know if there is a causal relation there, but... You could also import Leica lenses from the UK and realize a substantial savings over the US price (even with the rebates).
Zeiss lenses are also going up in price I think. And the Canon users have been complaining about how expensive the new Canon lenses are compared to the older ones. I think they saw a price increase in the last year or so as well.

It's almost as if Leica is doing us all a favor by raising prices.

From Leica Rumors the increase will be 8-15% for all products/upgrades except the M9.

Since that lens is only available on the used market you should be ok.

Don't forget inflation folks!
A dollar (euro, pound, yen, ect) today will be worth less tomorrow and so fourth.

At 15% you can afford to borrow the money to get it now.
All comes down to do you need it or want it. I don`t even want any more Leica stuff.

It's great for selling used gear, which looks better and better year after year.

Same old Leica trends as always, price increase price increase. Except here where the price was $10,500 USD and has dropped to around $8,100 but every camera is gray market.

There's never been a better time to pick up a used M6/M7/MP as prices are relatively low along with some ZM glass then....
.... then sped the $20k you have left over from the lux asph M9 kit on the best hand prints, framing and travel. Hey presto, a better photographer and prints to show for it
