Maybe Leica can finally break through the EVF issues and produce the electronic viewfinder we all want.
If it's another re-worked "part" from the bins of olympus and panasonic..... Well, what needs to be said?
Hopefully it's something special. I have not read any reviews beyond the dpreview article.
I don't recall what they had to say about it.

Still.... I would love a fixed lens rangefinder from Leica.
Imagine... Full frame... Leaf shutter silence and a perfectly matched summicron 2/40mm to a nice 1:1 leica RF system ..... Delicious! :D

Epson manufactures the EVF component used in the Visoflex EVF2 and type 020, not Olympus or Panasonic. Olympus buys the same panel from Epson too.

That said, if the Leica Q EVF is as good as the Olympus E-M1 EVF, it is terrific. That's currently the best I've used, better performing to my eye than the one in the Sony A7 series and Fuji X-T1, although the latter is close. It's not just the EVF panel, it's the optics and the systems that support it which are critical. The E-M1 EVF is truly an outstanding performer, IMO. I hope the Leica Q is the same.

Interesting, to my eye I found the Fuji XT1's the best in that comparison, but it seemed to fall apart in bright sunlight. On the other hand it (and all Fuji EVFs) give me severe motion sickness, something that I do not get from Olympus or Sony.

The X-T1 EVF is quite good to my eye, but it doesn't adapt to sunlight as well as the Olympus E-M1. The Sony A7 was terrible in this regard—I could only use it outdoors on a sunny day with a deep-brimmed hat on to keep it in the shade.

It's called dumping - they would rather have workers in their country working than not.
 
I would have voted 35mm, which is my "natural" focal length BUT I watched/read a couple of reviews this morning and realised that the digital crop mode still gives you 15 MP at 35mm, which is more than enough for most everyday shooting. And you get sexy Rf style frame lines then as well. I think I could cope quite comfortably with a camera that had 28mm and 35mm at that kind of resolution for almost all of my shooting. Agree that 8MP at 50mm isn't optimal but still fine for occasional street and casual snaps though. This has me thinking now.

Agree with that. And I find it extremely frustrating that this, along with the jello wobble effect in indoors lighting, is never ever mentioned by blogger$ who claim these things are the best ever.
Obviously, they don't want to lose their advertisers or have their access to 'test' cameras pulled.

I'm going to check out the Q at the Leica Shop just to see how the EVF performs. I'm done listening to bloggers, but find that real reviewers who do not have a vested interest are much more honest. On the fredmiranda site there is an ongoing post by Adam Dewilde which is extremely informational and useful. He's a pro photographer and bought his Q, not a blogger.

He posted the same thing to GetDPI. Adam seems an okay guy, but he has a bit of a chip on his shoulder about what Leica owes him regards service, etc. He took offense when I said that I was quite happy with Leica's service (they've done very well for me) and went off on a rant. He seems to have plenty of money to spend on buying more toys, though, even if they frustrate him.

That's what I don't understand: why buy stuff when you're unhappy with the company? I don't buy Sigma and sold off my Sony stuff for reasons like that. But to each their own..

I wasn't happy with my Leica service. 4 months with no camera while it was getting its sensor fixed. No offer of a loaner, even though the camera was maybe 9 months old. Poor i.e. no communication - promises of follow ups never came through.
But I still use Leica because it is the only mfg that provides the form that I enjoy using. If CV made a digital RF (think Zeiss Ikon digital), I would have been there.
 
I guess I'm patient, and I have plenty of cameras in case one needs to go to the shop. If the M-P needed to be in the shop for a few months, I'd just use my E-M1 or the M4-2 instead. There's a lot of duplicated functionality in my closet... And I like all of my gear albeit for different reasons. :)

Eh, I'd be happy if Leica Qii was 28mm still, I like that focal length/angle of view. I just need to save my pennies.

Besides, if the next version was 28mm (with crop options to 35mm and 50mm) and the sensor had twice the resolution, you'd end up with a 35mm camera with 30 MP (as opposed to 35mm and 15 MP).

I do feel for the 50mm and up crowd, you end up throwing away too many pixels.
 
28mm is perfect, why would you want something different? If anything, from a business standpoint, a fast 50mm makes sense for people who prefer something longer. A 35mm doesn't make sense, just use the 28mm and step one step forward, or a 50mm and step back. Fixed 24mm or 75mm don't make sense as they're specialist focallengths.

So, I voted nothing. Not that I'm buying a €4000 camera...

Alternately, and more likely to be possible - a 35mm variant with in-camera 50mm and 75mm framelines that crop the JPEGs and tag the DNGs just like how the Q does now for 35mm and 50mm.

:rolleyes: yeah, it never makes sense to have the focal length you truly want...
 
I would take a 50mm but voted 40mm instead. The versatility of that focal length is awesome.

It may be odd but the 40mm can be stepped up to 60mm then 80mm. And oh, f2 is sufficient... No need to go the distance for sub-f2 and wrestle with a larger lens.

I would even be willing to live with an f4 version of that
 
I'd be happy with a 50mm version, although only as one of a pair of cameras. As it is, I mostly use the M9 with a 50mm Summicron or Zeiss Sonnar, and carry a Ricoh GR for wide angle duties, so a 50mm Q with all of its benefits could be a good replacement for the M9 + 50/2.
