I just picked up a red Leica Summarit filter labeled R.m. on ebay. Dark red but you can still se through it. Is this filter for IR film or will it also work for b&w? What effect on b&w? Will it give that IR look? Stu

Rm = Rot Mittle (literally middle or average red)
From what I understand it's about equal to a Wratten 70. It won't give you the traditional IR effect with normal black and white film. Regardless of filter, most (as far as I know) normal black and white film isn't sensitive to the IR portion of the spectrum.
