Leica R- Nikon F mount conversion question

Are there any Leica R - Nikon F mount conversions out there that allow automatic aperture stop down, or do they all require manual stop down of the aperture before taking a shot?

Leitax offers this "Almost Auto-Aperture" that offers a lever to open the iris for focusing in a way that the lens operates like a perspective control lens without an auto diaphram.

I find this to be very convenient because you basically toggle between the F-stop for exposure and wide open for focusing. It is spring loaded so that to take the shot all you do is release the lever holding the iris open first.

I use this on a 50 Lux "E60" on a Nikon F3P. This is about as good as it gets.

I am a printer, and I do not post, but I can tell you that the 50 Lux "E60" is a remarkable lens, and the rendering wide open has this smooth-smooth transition between sharpness and softness. The sharpness and softness is rather remarkable.

This lens is so special that I restored a black SL2-MOT by having Sherry build me a restored camera from two parts cameras. I found a black SL2-MOT that was a unused shelf queen due to a dead CdS cell that also had a desilvered prism at Adorama for $279.00. I then found a totally hammered SL2 that was so worn that the lens mount needed replacement, but the prism was perfect and the meter worked for $200.00. Sherry simply made me one camera using the best parts from two.

I also have a black R8 with a winder.

At this time I only own one "R" lens. BTW I prefer the "E60" on a Leica body mostly because I have a Noct-Nikkor for my F3P.

At PhotoPlusExpo I harassed the guys at the SL booth making fun of them for not coming up with an original new name for a camera. "Why do I need a new SL when I already have an old one." LOL. They really loved my SL2-MOT with the 50 Lux "E60" because it was like a museum piece and factory fresh.

Thanks for the link.

I don't think the 50 "E60" features ASPH glass, but the remarkable sharpness is there, but the OOF and bokeh seems like old school. To me an example of a perfect lens that has magic due to the blend of sharpness and softness.

Rendering is a bit like a Noctilux, but without the light fall off in the corners.

Excellent stuff! Now I am really excited to use the just acquired Lux 50 on my F6.

The "E60" is a rare lens and the last version of the 50 Lux. It only came as a ROM, and no three cam version was ever made, so the native body I would think was the R9.

The 35 Lux is another lens that came at the end of the "R."

Like I said the "E60" rendering reminds me of a Noctilux, but without the dark corners.

You are a man after my own heart. I had Don Goldberg convert my M3 to MOT and M4 loading - just for my Canon 50mm 1.2.

Back in the early 80's I had a Nikon F with the F-36 drive converted to M42 with auto diaphram stop-dowm just to use my Takumars on a motor drive body 🙂 .

Congrats on getting a working camera out of junk. Fantastic!

Back in the early 80's I had a Nikon F with the F-36 drive converted to M42 with auto diaphram stop-dowm just to use my Takumars on a motor drive body 🙂 .

You should of seen the look on the guys from the Leica booth when I showed them the SL2-MOT. They really appreciated that I rescued a remarkable camera.

Other recent projects include finding a Fuji 100/3.5 AE with a dead CdS cell and having Frank Marshman transplant the multicoated EBC glass into a chrome manual lens barrel.

My F3P I modified by shimming the switch so that the light iluminates the LCD so that the LCD is lit anytime the metering is on.

Creative minds can't turn it off. Wish there were more of us so we could fix all the problems in the world.
