R6.2 vs SL/SL2
R6.2 vs SL/SL2
I am having doubts about the R6.2 I have on order. It is listed as mint and goes for $1450, which seems a lot for a film SLR especially since I am not a collector. And I have been talking to Sherry and she has a couple SL/SL2 for $575. And these cameras have been gone through by her so they are pretty reliable.
Now, I have never held a R6.2 and my experience with a SL is very limited but I remember the SL's are built like tanks and have the best viewfinder of any SLR I have ever used. And I know we are talking about cameras which are 10 and 40 years old.
Help.

... listed as mint and goes for $1450, ...
just the body ? sounds a lot for R8's that I've been looking...
are you sure its not some rare sample that would explain the price ?

KEH has the 6.2 in chrome for less than $700 in EX condition. An SL is only about $100 cheaper.
The average black body 6.2 should be in the $800 range from what I have seen over the past 3 months. And the 6.2 is a very nice camera!

As to which one, let your own research and inner voice speak to you on that. But I would read this by Doug Herr for sure:

BTW, you may need to email for a password to get into the reviews. No cost and worth it!

R6.2 Beautiful
R6.2 Beautiful
I must be nuts (my wife often thinks so and she is a mental health professional). Obsessing about cameras is starting to take over my life.
Anyway, I got the R6.2. It is gorgeous and exactly what I want in an SLR (compact manual with TTL) and it fits. It looks like I will be keeping it. So I may sell the F and/or blad.

Amazing isn't it? As John Travolta said, "Ain't it cool?"

Really Enjoying the R6.2
Really Enjoying the R6.2
I have had he R6.2 about a week and really enjoy using it. It is small, feels great and has all the features one needs for photography and nothing extra (similiar to an M6). I have not used a 35mm SLR for over a year as I had loaned my Nikon F to a high school photo student and the blad is so different it does not count.
Anyway, I will do a report on the R6.2 in the near future (traveling for my daughter's college graduation at the moment). The only lens I have for the R6.2 is a 50 Summicron. Does anyone know if it is the same formula as the M version?

Leica R6.2 Quick Eval
Leica R6.2 Quick Eval
I acquired a black Leica R6.2 with 50 Summicron about a month ago from Collectible Camera in Phoenix. Since I now have a few rolls of film through it, I thought I would give a quick eval.
It is the first Leica SLR I have owned and must say I am impressed. It is the size and weight of a Leica M with the same quality of construction (Of course, I would be surprised if this was not the case.). The viewfinder is bright and quick and displays just the information needed (f stop, shutter speed, spot or average metering and electronic flash readiness). Growing up with a Nikon F in the 1970's, the 6.2 provides just the correct amount of info and I prefer a manual camera.
So far, I only have the 50 Summicron but like the M version, it may be the standard on which other 50 mm SLR lenses are judged. I have been using M's for the past several years and my only negative comment is that the position of the focus and f stop ring are reversed on the R lens vice M version so it has taken me time to get used to finding the correct controls while looking through the viewfinder.
Now, what lenses will be in my future? Am thinking the 28 Elmarit and 100 Macro APO.

Sounds good! I have found using the R4 simultaneously with the M3 on a recent 6 month project has been a rewarding experience. The 50mm Cron is a superb lens and gives me sharper images when I want them, otherwise, I use the M3 with the Summarit.
