Leica r8 lenses???

"I thought maybe some other brand could provide nice glass for these superb bodies."
- The point is actually the opposite. It's all about superior Leica glass on these INFERIOR bodies. I would pay quite a bit to have a Nikon F3 fully compatible with Leica R lenses.
Anyway, I would skip zoom lenses, as these were mostly made by Minolta anyway. For me the point of keeping SLR's are lenses from normal FL onwards, so the two gems to look for at affordable prices are the Macro Elmarit 60/2.8 and Summicron 90/2, or if you prefer lighter, slower and sharper, Elmarit 90/2.8.

I don't know if any of the third party lens suppliers shipped Leica R mount products.

Angénieux made a few (IIRC three) zooms in R mount when they expanded from Alpa and Cine only to just about every SLR system with a pro body in the late seventies. But that may be all there ever was...

I use only one lens. Sold all the other that I had for this one.
And I like the 80 1,4 very much.

So you get used to this one, know how it works and what it will do.

Ehm, sem, you posted this picture also in the Medium format thread - so, what is it, a medium format picture or the Leica 80/1.4?

I'm often tempted by the R-series as a cheap(er) way to get into Leica glass, but, until now, I was able to withstand the temptation!

You are right. It is a leica, but something very near to medium format in a way. So I can understand your temtation. Stopped down a bit the lens is realy great and my medium format glas is not that better and I like to shot with a R very much.
