I've had the R8 now for a good four months and at the start of this asked if it was a worthy successor to the Leicaflex SL. I think I can answer yes, without hesitation. It has a real presence as a camera, with a very distinctive look. I now use it in a pair with the SL2 - I love the spot metering option which I mostly use, but the matrix metering is also superb. Ergonomics are superb with the exception of the off open on the modes - I'd rather a separate button, but that is a small detail. You can see the shutter speed dial protusion is just like the SL2, makes it so easy to use. The build quality is beautiful, more modern materials than the SL2, but reassuringly solid.
The one thing I keep forgetting to do is wind on - I feel something that modern and substantial should have a motor so assume it has! At some point buy a winder motor, but no rush.
