Leica Repaint - how to remove/attach asa dial

Hi all - I'm about to launch yet another Leica repaint post (feel free to gag/curse/admonish at any time ;-P ). I have done some searches and every painting topic seems to be covered except how to remove and re-attach the riveted asa dial from the back door. Removal seems pretty straight forward - carefully drill them out. What is the recommended method for putting the dial back on? I can see three possible solutions 1) make your own replacement rivets out of brass/aluminum wire...2) try to find some incredibly tiny self tapping machine screws...or 3) Just epoxy the SOB in place.

I'm kind of leaning towards making my own rivets out of brass wire (actually the machine screws were my first choice but I have no idea were to find screws that small that would anchor into the back door and sit flush with the dial).

Any opinions on this?

Don't take my word for it, but the machine screws might be the best idea... I haven't ever examined it, but I'm guessing it's pretty complicated (knowing German engineering) to make the rivets.

Leave the dial alone. Cameraleather coverings are cut out to fit around it. Nobody sees the back door when you're carrying or using the camera.

I agree with Al here - why remove it. If you want to paint it mask the area around it and shoot away. The covers are easy to install with it on.

I did a repaint on my M2 and repainted the back door too.
I cleaned the vulcanit area and sanded the frame, then, I covered the dial and as much a possible of the vulcanit area, painted the stuff while protecting the two small shafts that attaches the door to the body.
